PSHE

PSHE Education: Information for Parents and Carers

Welcome to our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) Education page. This page explains what PSHE is, what your child will learn during secondary school, and how we work in partnership with parents and carers to support young people.

What is PSHE?

PSHE is a planned, age-appropriate programme that supports students to develop the knowledge, skills, and values they need to:

- Stay physically and mentally healthy
- Build positive, respectful relationships
- Stay safe online and offline
- Make informed choices about their lives
- Prepare for adulthood, work, and financial independence

PSHE plays a vital role in safeguarding and wellbeing and complements the academic curriculum.

Why PSHE Matters in Secondary School

During adolescence, young people face increasing independence, social pressures, and online influences. High-quality PSHE helps students to:

- Understand themselves and manage emotions
- Build resilience and confidence
- Respect diversity and challenge discrimination
- Know how and where to seek help
- Develop critical thinking and decision-making skills

What Topics Are Covered?

Our PSHE curriculum follows statutory guidance and is delivered in a safe, inclusive, and respectful way. Topics include:

How PSHE Is Taught

- Lessons are taught by form tutors for 1 lesson a week.
- Content is age-appropriate and inclusive
- Ground rules are established to ensure a safe learning environment
 - Students are encouraged to ask questions but are never required to share personal experiences
- A range of teaching methods are used, including discussion, case studies, and activities

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE): Parental Information

Relationships and Health Education is statutory in secondary schools. Parents and carers have the right to request withdrawal from some elements of sex education (but not from relationships or health education).
If you would like more information about specific lessons or wish to discuss any aspect of RSE, please contact the school.

How Parents and Carers Can Support at Home

You can support your child by:
- Talking openly and calmly about PSHE topics
- Encouraging questions and listening without judgement
- Reinforcing messages about respect, safety, and wellbeing
- Directing your child to trusted sources of information
- We understand that these conversations can feel challenging — the school is always happy to help.

Safeguarding and Support

PSHE lessons may raise questions or concerns for students. If a student shares something that suggests they may be at risk of harm, staff will follow safeguarding procedures to ensure they receive appropriate support.
Students are regularly reminded of who they can talk to in school if they need help.
