On the 1st July we were delighted to welcome almost one hundred students for a day of experiencing life as a sixth former on our Post 16 induction day. Students are fresh from completing their GCSE’s but were still happy to give up a day of their summer holiday to dress smartly and spend a day in school. After a talk about what Kingsthorpe College can offer at Post 16 and what makes us stand out from other sixth forms in the town, students were able to participate in up to four taster sessions. Some took the opportunity to try out subjects they have previously studied but wanted to get a taste of what the A-level version of the subject may be like, such as biology students (who conducted a practical testing urine samples for diabetes). There were plenty of brand new subjects on offer as well, and the criminology and psychology classrooms were absolutely packed as students had their first taste of these subjects. Other subjects that students may be less familiar with (and are not offered by many other schools in the town) include computer games design, creative digital media, and financial studies, which again received positive feedback.
Students finished the day by completing postcards which required them to answer questions about their future selves – they will get these back in June 2021 and see how accurate their predictions were! Students that wish to return (or new students that wish to join us) can sign up for a place in our sixth form on GCSE results day. They now have summer transition work to complete ready for September, which can be found at the following locations: https://kingsthorpecollege.org.uk/post-16
