Post 16 induction day

We have recently completed two very successful induction days for our new Post 16 students, ending with a barbecue on the field in glorious sunshine! During the two days – attended by 100 students as we are set to have our biggest intake yet – there were various activities on offer including study skill sessions, a talk by an external speaker, and plenty of opportunities to take part in taster lessons. During the talk the speaker, Karim, explained to students how the brain can be used more effectively when it comes to learning new content. He then proved this by effortlessly teaching (in about five minutes!) our new post 16 students how to count to ten in Japanese and the Greek alphabet!

All students have now been set transition work over the long summer holidays (over ten weeks until we return in September!) to ensure that they are fully up to speed and ready to start the incredibly tough challenge that A-levels will provide. Feedback from those that attended was phenomenally positive (many have requested a barbecue everyday when the new term starts – we will have to check the budget to see about that….) with the vast majority stating that they now feel prepared for Post 16 education.

If you are a current Kingsthorpe College student who did not attend the induction days and are still interested in attending our Sixth form, then please ensure you get in touch with the Post 16 department to enquire about receiving transition work and what spaces may still be available.

We look forward to meeting parents of our new Post 16 students at our information evening on the 24th September.
