The raising the participation agenda requires all students to now stay in education or training until the age of 18. Progression through Sixth Form enables students to achieve greater fulfilment and to access better careers and salaries in their future lives.

At Kingsthorpe College we strive to offer a broad and balanced curriculum. We offer courses for different abilities through the provision of over 30 qualifications that come from academic and applied disciplines.  In addition, there are enrichment opportunities that include a full week long work experience, KC Evolve, The Extended Project Qualification and Young Enterprise competition.  This encourages large numbers of our year 11 students to stay on into Post 16 along with a healthy number of external applications. The majority students choose to go on to university after completing Post 16.

We offer a friendly and supportive environment in which to learn. There is an excellent system of pastoral care and tutors work closely with students to help them through Post 16 and towards university, training or a career.  The teaching staff work hard and are committed to achieving high results for their students.

There are also opportunities for extra-curricular development such as paired reading, social events, fundraising, and the student leadership team.  The student leadership team are integral in representing the student body and shaping the learning experience of students in the school.

In the prospectus you will find details of all of the courses which we currently offer at Kingsthorpe College. All students in year 11 have a one-to-one interview with a member of the Post 16 team to ensure they pick the correct subjects to enable them to achieve their future aspirations.

All internal and external candidates who meet the academic criteria will receive a place in the sixth form. The academic standard for admission and the course requirements are in the sixth form prospectus. The capacity for the sixth form is 240 students with 20 of these places available for external students.

We thank you for your interest in post-16 education at Kingsthorpe College and look forward to receiving your application. If you require any further information, please contact the school on 01604 716106 and ask for Cherry Coppard on extension 1323.
