Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
The examinations are over for the year. A2 and Year 11 students have left to follow their individual routes - to university perhaps or, for GCSE students, a brief summer holiday before returning to the Sixth Form. The College is quiet as we are missing two year groups. But, life at KC is still as busy and exciting as ever.
Examinations, for example, continue and the pressure on our AS and Year 10 students remains as strong as it has ever been. Many of our Year 9 students have also started their Level 2 courses which will lead to examination success in 2012. Members of staff are preparing not only their lessons this term but also for the changes that will take place to many courses next year. And then we have the Year 11 prom, sports day, the summer concert and the Awards Evening, all of which are eagerly awaited by students and staff.
It has been a good year.
The College’s Ofsted report highlighted many positive features particularly in terms of leadership, student behaviour, the effectiveness of care, guidance and support and safeguarding. KC was described as a ‘happy and caring community’ which adopts a ‘very systematic approach to all aspects of its work’. Indeed, this systematic approach helped us to achieve our best GCSE results ever in 2009 and we are hoping to match (or even exceed) these in August.
We also gained the prestigious Inclusion Award during the Spring Term. This was particularly important to us as we appreciated the fact that the external assessor applauded our total commitment to ensuring that we provide a wealth of opportunities for all of our students. We are looking forward to celebrating our success during a ceremony which will be held at KC in September.
And this list goes on to include the progress made by our students in sport, Performance Arts and other areas of the curriculum. I would like to thank you for your continued support throughout the year. Thank you for attending Parents’ Consultation sessions, particularly those parents who have attended all three this year. Thank you also for attending after College events to support your sons and daughters.
I hope that you have a very good summer and that students take the time to relax and enjoy their holidays before the new term begins in September.
All the best,
Judith Long
