Citizenship

Citizenship is seen as an integral part of the life of the College. It is seen as the responsibility of all members of staff to encourage students to become active citizens both within their College and in the communities in which they live.

The Citizenship team is made up of members of staff who have responsibility for Citizenship, PSHE and Enterprise and Business Links. Team members aim to give the students the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to allow them to make informed choices in life.

Citizenship lessons are an important part of the curriculum. At Key Stage 3, students follow a comprehensive curriculum. They then go on to study the GCSE Citizenship Short Course at Key Stage 4.

The College promotes extra-curricular activities, for example, the Macmillan Coffee Morning and national no smoking days. Students are also encouraged to attend College Council meetings and to become involved in local and national initiatives – for example, the Northampton Youth Forum.

Year 10 students take part in a Community Programme which provides them with the opportunity to work within the local community to make a real difference.

The Faculty is proud to use many outside agencies, experts in their fields, to enhance the Citizenship programme. Many of these ‘friends’ have commented on the College’s willingness and determination to provide a variety of experiences and opportunities for everyone at Kingsthorpe College.
