Previous Community Projects

Get Active, Get Healthy, Get Involved Community Day

This became an annual event which aimed to show the community what sports clubs and physical activity initiatives were available in the local area. It included community groups, fun activities and entertainment to encourage everyone to get involved.

Cobblers SCORE Project

From Sep 2008 students who had a low level of attendance commenced a 10 week programme of learning at the Cobblers Study Centre. This included literacy, numeracy and ICT as well as the Junior Football Organisers Course aimed at bringing these students back into a school environment and increasing their level of attendance.

Rebecca Allen was one of the Year 10 participants:-

'At the Cobblers Study Centre we have been doing a lot of things and it has been really fun and exciting. We have been working on coaching younger children football skills. We went over to Upton Meadows and taught them. They listened really well to Jordan when he introduced himself and Katie, Matthew and me, we played stuck in the mud without the footballs and the kids listened really well'.

Stop Smoking Project

This project aimed to help both students and staff in the college to give up smoking.

It was advertised outside the school canteen and gave people the opportunity to measure their Co2 levels and receive relevant information.

The project consisted mainly of one-to-one sessions and provided a chance for smokers to speak about their smoking habits and develop individual stop smoking plans. The smokers were also prescribed with the most suitable Nicotine Replacement Therapy for them free of charge.

We are hoping to run the project again in 2012!

School Fantacy Football League

The league was started in October 2007 to help students work with maths and ICT in a fun format.

Results were based on the Premiership matches and participants could make transfers using virtual money.

St Davids Day Centre

The Community Sports Development Officer at Kingsthorpe College worked with Age Concern to provide a Well being programme where attendees received exercise and health workshops which not only made them smile but helped them feel better too!

The project was so successful the now 'Friends of St Davids' received funding to keep the project going.
