We entered a debating competition with three other schools on the 27th January. We competed against Northampton School For Girls (who also hosted the competition), Duston School and Campion. The first round involved Chloe Gooing and Louise Calpin argue in favour of the motion that the BBC licence fee should be scrapped. They were able to use many examples and provide compelling evidence that the £145.50 we pay each year could be better spent elsewhere, and in the modern world of YouTube and the internet it is now an outdated institution that has served its purpose! In the final of the competition Joe Morris and Ellie Morgan argued that NICE does not do a good job of recommending which new drugs should be available on the NHS. Joe Started off with a wonderful two minute speech, whilst Ellie did the one minute summary at the end of the 45 minute debate.
Unfortunately, Northampton School Girls shaded the final, but it was another excellent night where are students can feel immensely proud of themselves!
